Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has agreed to an interview with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.

Mark Paoletta, the lawyer for Thomas, confirmed her acquiescence in a statement.

CNN broke the news. Coverage that followed included reports by the Washington Post, the Associated Press and USA Today.

“As she has said from the outset, Mrs. Thomas is eager to answer the committee’s questions to clear up any misconceptions about her work relating to the 2020 election. She looks forward to that opportunity,” Paoletta said.

The committee is interested in speaking with Thomas following reports that she was involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

According to prior news stories, Thomas reportedly urged then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in texts to contest then-President Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss; sent emails to Arizona lawmakers and Wisconsin lawmakers to choose slates of electors backing Trump, despite his losses in the states; and corresponded with former Chapman University law professor John Eastman, who devised a plan to give Trump an Electoral College win.
