If this bill becomes law, it will:
Make Parent PLUS borrowers eligible for all income-driven repayment plans — including SAVE
- Allow loan forgiveness if the child becomes eligible for Total and Permanent Disability discharge
- Make Parent PLUS borrowers eligible to PSLF if their child enrolls in qualifying public service jobs
- Create a new hardship category for loan discharge based on income, age and other factors

Due to the uncertainty, it’s safer to consolidate your Parent Plus loans twice, which will allow you to convert them to SAVE or another IDR until July 2025. While you wait for the consolidations, your loans will go into forbearance. You would then recertify your income and request the IDR plan that makes the most sense to you.
