If you only have a few months to go, you should consider enrolling in an Income Driven Plan, such as IBR, Paye, or Paye Plus (if you are eligible and want the 20-year plan instead of 25-years) to get your forgiveness approved. If you are approved for forgiveness now, it will be tax-free (until December 31st 2025 and your loans are unlikely to be reinstated). The political climate may not guarantee forgiveness in the future. Although we don’t anticipate plans like IBR to disappear (they are already built into your Promissory note and Congressionally passed), the terms may change.
