If you want to get hired by Sullivan & Cromwell, be prepared for an “extremely vigilant” review of your background for clues that you participated in or created “a climate of harassment, intimidation and discrimination,” according to the law firm’s senior chair.

“We have been, and will be, extremely vigilant in our hiring activities to ensure we are only hiring those students we are comfortable will proudly represent the values and principles of our firm,” senior chair Joe Shenker told Bloomberg Law.

Shenker cited antisemitic behavior during pro-Palestinian campus protests as a reason for the thorough reviews, Law.com reports.

To screen job candidates, Sullivan & Cromwell will “review resumés for participation in pro-terrorist groups and other similar activities,” according to a firm statement published by Law.com. The firm will also do a “thorough review of the candidate’s online presence, school website (and) news reports.”

Job candidates will be asked to provide a list of all campus organizations that they were involved in. And formal background checks will be conducted by third-party specialists.

Sullivan & Cromwell won’t tolerate the kind of antisemitic behavior that has emerged on campuses during the protests, Shenker told Law.com.

“We have been consistent in our view, which is that any bias, any hate speech, is inappropriate—anti-Black, anti-Hispanic, anti-LGBTQ or antisemitic, all of it,” Shenker said.
