CIS Co-Sponsors Conference to Combat Human Trafficking
The Center for Immigration Studies is co-sponsoring the 2nd Annual Conference to Combat Human Trafficking on December 12-13, 2023, together with the University of Houston’s Borders, Trade, and Immigration Institute and Sam Houston State University’s Institute for Homeland Security. The conference will take place at Sam Houston State University in The Woodlands, Texas, near Houston.
The purpose of the conference is two-fold:
- To present new research and innovative technologies that may be used in efforts to halt human trafficking; and
- To identify areas for future research and to develop viable solutions through technologies and enhanced capabilities to counter human trafficking and smuggling.
Senior federal and state officials and leading academic and policy experts will speak on a variety of topics, including investigation and prosecution of human trafficking, issues concerning unaccompanied alien minors, social media, artificial intelligence, collaborative approaches to countering human trafficking, and more. Confirmed speakers include Doug Gilmer of the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking, Brody Burks of the Texas Attorney General’s office, Tara Lee Rodas of the federal Council of the Inspectors General, Richard Mantei of the Florida Attorney General’s office, and Frank Russo of the CPAC Center for Combating Human Trafficking.
Admission to the conference is free but attendees must register by December 1, 2023.
