Perkins Coie has pushed back start dates for some first-year associates, according to two published reports.
The delayed date applies to all incoming first-year associates, except for those in the firm’s intellectual property practice, Bloomberg Law reports.
Bloomberg Law obtained a copy of the internal memo making the announcement, while Law.com received confirmation from anonymous sources.
Incoming first-year associates with a delayed start date will begin work at the law firm Jan. 16. Delayed associates will receive a $15,000 stipend.
A Perkins Coie spokesperson did not immediately respond to the ABA Journal’s request for information.
Perkins Coie is among several firms that have delayed start dates until January for incoming associates. They are: Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; Cooley; and Fenwick & West.
Perkins Coie announced in February that it laid off 58 business professionals across its U.S. offices.
Orrick is laying off about 40 lawyers and 50 staff members. And Reed Smith laid off about 2% of its global workforce, affecting lawyers and staff members.
