Trump wins dismissal of suits by niece, former lawyer

Former President Donald Trump won dismissals Monday of lawsuits filed against him by his niece Mary Trump and his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen. Mary Trump had alleged that she was duped about the value of inherited property when she agreed to a settlement with Trump and two other family members. Cohen had claimed that he was sent back to prison from home confinement for writing a book critical of Trump. (The Associated Press, Law.com, Reuters here and here, CNN)

Greenberg Traurig hires IP group from virtual law firm

Greenberg Traurig has hired an intellectual property group of 16 lawyers and 15 other professionals from cloud-based law firm FisherBroyles. Two partners moving to Greenberg Traurig told Law.com that a lack of physical offices made it difficult to meet with clients and develop business. (Law.com)

Frost Brown Todd merges with 23-lawyer firm in California

Frost Brown Todd is merging with California-based law firm AlvaradoSmith, which has 23 lawyers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Orange County, California. The combined firm will have more than 575 attorneys in 17 offices across nine states and Washington, D.C. (Frost Brown Todd press release, Law.com)

States reach $3.1B opioid settlement with Walmart

Walmart has agreed to pay $3.1 billion to resolve allegations that its failure to regulate opioid prescriptions contributed to the opioid epidemic. The money would be paid to state, local and tribal governments. CVS and Walgreens have also reached tentative deals that would bring the total pharmacy settlements to about $13.1 billion.
